Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser
It seems that pretty much since the launch of Maybelline's Baby line the blogosphere has gone crazy, and left a lot of people divided. Saying that I was actually never tempted to try the Baby Lips line, however when Maybelline introduced their Baby Skin primer I was tempted after hearing its similarities to Benefit's Porefessional.
Maybelline's Baby Skin Primer is described as a lightweight primer that is designed to minimise the appearance of pores and help prep the skin giving a smooth base to apply foundation onto. This can either be applied on its own to help give skin a soft look that is almost your skin but better or as a primer to mattify skin and fill in pores and lines to help create a perfect base for your foundation.
When applying you only need a pea sized amount to cover your face, and simply apply with your fingertips. It's a clear silky gel-like formula that melts into the skin effortless leaving skin feeling smooth and velvety. This is primarily down to the primer being silicone based which means that it sits on your skin allowing foundation to glide on top acting as a mask stopping your foundation from sitting in problem areas such as pores or fine lines.
My issue with this primer comes only a couple of hours after wearing it, now I know that silicone based primers are meant to be great for oily skin but I have found that when using it my skin has become oilier and shiner than previously. So I thought maybe it was the foundation or the way that I was applying my foundation, so tried three different foundations (drug store to high end) all finished with powder and I would notice after a couple of hours patches of shine would appear. Worst of all I did begin to notice areas on my face where it looked like the foundation had melted into this oily clump - as if it had been pumped from the foundation bottle.
Like I said I have tried a few foundations with this and all have done the same, popped just my Maybelline Fit Me on yesterday (just round the house) without any primer just to check if it was my skin and nope there was no shine to be seen. So Lasting power wise for both shine and foundation, it's a bit worrying as I feel that I am constantly having to check my face for touch ups or to wipe those oily patches of foundation away.
However despite the one major flaw I found with this, it does actually help smooth the texture of my skin and reduce pores and redness. But saying that it doesn't make it enough for me to fall in love with it, maybe on its own I could give it a shot but I'm after something that is a fab primer for my foundation.
This retails for £7.99 which isn't a bad price for this considering you get the same amount of product as you do with Benefit's Porefessional, and a little certainly does go a long way.
Overall this is an ok primer, and I think that's all I can really say about it. I know there is a lot of hype surrounding this with a lot of people actually loving this primer, however for me personally it's gonna be a miss and I think I'll stick to my trusty Porefessional.
Have you tried Maybelline's Baby Skin out? I'd love to know your thoughts?
