theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter £17.50 - Link
For me highlighters have always seemed like an extra unnecessary step in my makeup routine, it was always something I'd use once in a blue moon and up until recently I hadn't realised the importance of highlighters all thanks to theBalm's Mary-Lou Manizer.
The Mary-Lou Manizer is described as a seemingly innocent honey hued luminiser that catches everybody's eye. This highlighter, shadow and shimmer diffuses light so your skin looks softer and younger while adding a subtle glow. You can layer this on your eyelids for luxe-looking lashes, sweep it on your cheeks for a sexy sheen, or use it as an all-over finishing touch before you head out for the night.
I can't believe that it has took me so long to finally jump on the bandwagon and try a product from theBalm after hearing so many great things - so I figured why not try one of their most coveted products the Mary Lou Manizer.
Once applied I instantly understood the hysteria surrounding this highlighter, as soon as my brush hit the tops of my cheeks I noticed how soft and buttery the texture of the product was. This blends really easily so you don't have to worry about looking like a glittery disco ball when you leave the house, and instead gives your skin a gorgeous healthy glow. In terms of pigmentation this is super impressive, so if you are a little heavy handed be warned as it is quite easy to go overboard. Personally I like to apply this gently using just the smallest amount - in fear of going overboard - as I tend to opt for a natural highlight on the tops of my cheeks. I find that this works best when applied with a small brush such as my Real Techniques Setting Brush, as I can focus on specific areas such as above my cheeks, brows and cupids bow.
Once applied this instantly adds shimmer and a radiant dewy glow to my skin which really helps to lift my complexion and just makes my skin look healthier and more awake. The highlighter itself is what I'd describe as a golden/pearly champagne which is just perfect on my skin tone and will definitely be packing this with me when I go on holiday as I'll be lusting after dewy tanned skin.
I can't do a full review on this if I don't talk about the packaging, theBalm have nailed it - all their packaging is really cute and fun. What I really like about this is the introduction to their Mary-Lou character and I love the cute rap sheet on both the box and compact. To top it all of this little compact comes with a mirror inside the lid which you know is a standard thing for a lot of compacts but let's be honest it's one of the most handiest things a product could have - and I have to admit I hate it when products don't just makes life a lot more complicated if you're on the move.
Overall I'm really glad I gave this a shot as this has proved to be a gorgeous highlighter and has left me wanting to try more of theBalm products. Whilst this may be a little pricey I wouldn't bat an eyelid at spending it again because the texture and pigmentation make this a dream to apply - enabling me to embrace my inner golden goddess.
