I don't know about you but as of late I have really invested in skincare and this has meant finding a routine and range of products that work best for me. I actually did a post last week on my skincare must-haves for oily skin and this week wanted to share with you my top skincare must haves for blemish prone skin, as I don't know about you but I tend to suffer from blemishes, whether it be that time of the month or having a little tipple it all seems to set my skin off - so these are my blemish busters!
What I find quite ironic about blemish prone skin is that you end up using the harshest exfoliators or drying cleansers all aimed at blemishes and acne to try and clear your complexion but instead this can calm the skin temporarily but then set it off again due to the harsh ingredients. The skin is rather delicate which means that you should stick to calming or gentle products that will cleanse your skin whilst soothing and hydrating to help with the healing process of blemishes and acne.
I'm starting to sound a bit like a broken record but for cleansing I really don't think you can go wrong with the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, this is such a great overall cleanser that is not only gentle on the skin but it helps clear your skin of any makeup or daily grime. With continued use I find that this helps control any blemishes or breakouts and they often clear up quickly with daily use. I like to team this cleanser with the Magnitone Lucid Facial Brush as this helps work the Cleanse and Polish into the skin whilst gently exfoliating to remove any impurities and dead skin cells. If you do have sore or open blemishes I'd definitely recommend using the sensitive option, and using every other day. With continued use this helps calm blemishes and make breakouts few and far between.
When it comes to blemish prone skin I always like to use a toner, especially the Pixi Glow Tonic, what I love about this product is that it contains Glycolic acid, Witch Hazel and Aloe Vera which are great for treating blemish prone skin. I find that this gently exfoliates the skin whilst lightening skin pigmentation which is great for reducing the red marks left from blemishes. This toner really helps keep pores clean which helps reduce blackheads and keep skin looking clear. I tend to switch between toners and the second I like to use is the Lush Tea Tree Water Tonic Water, I usually just spritz this onto cotton wool before applying directly to the face and I find that this really helps calm my skin and help with any troublesome blemishes especially those pesky under the skin marks. This contains ingredients including tea tree, juniper berry and grapefruit which all have great antibacterial properties, which helps blemishes and redness heal without being too drying on the skin.
Next up is the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo which is specifically developed to target the key signs of blemish prone skin. I find that this stuff works wonders when applied daily, it helps clear up any type of breakout including those pesky under the skin breakouts and never irritates my skin. I like to apply a thin layer on my face and then an extra on any particularly bad areas on my skin. This is great to use under makeup too as it helps with the redness of any blemishes, and a treatment I'd definitely recommend. Teamed with the Soap and Glory Dr Spot Treatment this duo zaps away at blemishes quickly. Dr Spot is a super-strength, breakout-fighting gel which helps speed up the healing process of any spots. I tend to dab just a tiny amount of the gel on any area where I already have blemishes or can feel one starting and this helps to quickly reduce redness and the appearance of marks. I find that this sometimes tingles if the skin is open but I do like that tingling feeling as I feel that this is getting to work.
Last but not least is the Body Shop Tea Tree Squeaky-Clean Scrub, this is one of those scrubs that contains micro-fine exfoliants that helps clear the skin of daily grime and makeup and is so gentle on the skin. I'm a big fan of the tea tree scent and I find that this leaves my skin feeling really clean without being drying. This is another product that is great for speeding up the healing process of blemishes and I find that this helps even my skin which in turn helps to reduce the amount of breakouts I suffer from.
These are just some of my favourite blemish busters that I love to use when my skin is acting up, and I'd love to know what are your must-haves for blemish prone skin!
