Skincare Saviours: My Must-Haves for Oily Skin

Skincare for oily skin, must-have skincare for oily skin

It's been a little while since I've done a skincare post, and the reason why was because up until a few months ago I was able to get into a skincare routine which I was quite happy with and felt helped benefit my oily skin. However it was only until a couple of months ago that I noticed my old routine wasn't working the wonders it used to and my skin was producing so much oil which meant I needed a change. So with that in mind I set out to find a range of products to help with my oily skin, and I wanted to share with you my top skincare must haves for oily skin.

Before I start with the products I thought it was best to add that when looking for skincare to tackle oily skin it can be so tempting to opt for harsher products to remove any traces of oil, but instead by stripping the oils in your skin it's going to produce a hell of a lot more so I've found it best opting for softer products and those that contain salicylic acid.

To cleanse my skin I always opt for the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish and I find that this is just a great overall cleanser to remove any traces of makeup and dirt from the skin. This helps with the reduction of blemishes and sebum and with regular use this helps create a soothe and clean base for your skincare routine. Next up is the La Roche-Posay Serozinc Spray, I actually picked this up when I went to Paris last month and this is designed for oily and blemish prone skin. I apply this spray after cleansing and before moisturising and I find that this just helps calm my skin and seems to control oil production whilst being gentle as I cannot stand a toner that tightens your skin.

To moisturise I've been loving the No7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream for Oily Skin, I find that you only need the smallest amount of this as a little goes a long way and feels very much like a water or gel based moisturiser. Once applied this dries really smooth and leaves a satin finish, and is just that little bit thicker to help hydrate whilst control oiliness.

Next up are a couple of new items to my oily skincare routine and the first is the Una Brennan Super Facialist Salicylic Acid Anti-Blemish scrub, and is one of those items that works from the get go. Normally I tend to go for the harshest facial scrubs as I like the feeling of them scrubbing away any impurities, but this exfoliates in a gentle way, yet you still get the feeling that it's working. I always notice that straight after using this it calms oil production down and my skill is left feeling quite refreshed rather than oily and dull. I team this with the Una Brennan Super Facialist Salicylic Acid Anti-Blemish Clay Mask which again is a great mask if you suffer from excessive oil production, after around 5-10 minutes I remove this mask and my skin is left feeling soft and clean any excess oils are gone and I notice my skin looking and feeling a lot more balanced. I think this is down to the mask never feeling tightening so it's not taking out all the moisture which can lead to additional oil creation.

Now this may seem a bit of a weird one but another oily skin must have for me is the Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil, but believe it or not oily skin can really benefit from skin oils. This is because oily skin can sometimes be dehydrated, which leads to excess oil production to combat the dryness so all in all it's a vicious cycle. But I find that applying this on a night really helps to gently nourish the skin and help hydrate. When applied this actually feels really lightweight and never greasy, absorbing into the skin quite quickly and I've found this has actually helped make a difference to my skin.

Last but not least is the Vichy Normaderm Night Detox which is designed to target excess sebum that is produced over night. This is really the star of the show as I've always found it difficult to keep on top of my oil skin but from the first use this definitely helps clear up my oily t-zone and by the next morning my skin is looking the same as it did when I went to sleep. This is one of those treatments that just helps combat that feeling of having to constantly check your skin because you can feel the oil seeping through.

These are just some products that I've found helped control my oily skin. I'd love to know what your oily skin skincare must-haves are!
