MAC Ellie Goulding Collection

MAC Ellie Goulding Collection
LtoR: Without Your Love, I'll Hold My Breath, Explosion, Only You

MAC collaborations are my weakness let's be honest, I know it and you know it - I just can't help myself. When I saw the initial promo for the MAC x Ellie Goulding collaboration I couldn't contain my excitement and eagerly awaited the launch as this range combined two of my favourite things, three if you include the vast array of nude shades - because as much as I love to sport a bright lip my heart will always belong to nudes.

Ellie Goulding, the powerhouse pop goddess, brings her blonde, bold spirit to MAC in a collaboration that's as mesmerising as her music. Inspired by the light and dark dichotomy so present in her artwork and as a performer, Ellie's thoughtfully curated collection emulates her two signature looks; effortless au natural by day, and breathtaking bombshell by night.

Naturally I had to pick up the two lipsticks in the collection; Without Your Love and Only You, but also couldn't resist the I'll Hold My Breath Powder and Explosion Plushglass.

Without Your Love is described as a warm seashell pink with a cremesheen finish. Despite my matte lovin' Cremesheen formulas are where it all began for me, and was nice to try them again. This is such a gorgeous natural pink with peach undertones, once applied this does go on quite sheer leaving a pearly sheen to the lips. Because this is so sheer this makes a great shade for everyday wear as it's definitely one of those your lips but better shades, despite being a cremesheen finish I think this is much more like a lustre - I know there has been some discussion as to whether they were falsely marked up - as the formula is just so glossy. Wear time this is typical of either a cremesheen or lustre finish, lasting just 2-3 hours on my lips before I need to reapply.

Only You is described as a muted mid-tone coral with a cremesheen finish. This is the darker of the two shades, and is a gorgeous light coral with warm undertones and is subtle enough that it doesn't leave your lips looking too bright. Again this does run on the sheerer side once applied to the lips leaving a neutral pink with a creamy gloss, so don't expect too much pigmentation, but despite this it's still a stunning and a really wearable shade which would definitely suit a smokey eye. I've found that the formula can drag a little on the lips, but once warmed up it does apply a lot easier. Again the wear time is pretty much the same, lasting just 2-3 hours before reapplying.

Explosion is described as a warm light golden shimmer, usually I'm not a lip gloss lover but I couldn't resist this as it's such a gorgeous shade and for me it's as close to rose gold makeup as I think I'm gonna get. When applied this is such a gorgeous champagne pink, and because of the speckles of glitter it actually gives the appearance of fuller lips. Despite its rose gold appearance this gloss is applies sheer with a subtle hint of shimmer. This actually works really well when combined with either lipstick or if you want a little something on your lips without having much colour.

I'll Hold My Breath blush and powder duo is described as a medium warm bronze/ peachy pink pearl with a satin finish. This is such a gorgeous bronzer and blush duo, and one of which I was most excited to get my hands on. I will start off by saying I'm a little disappointed that the bronzer takes up a good 75% of the space in the pan - I would have much preferred a 50-50 split, which means to apply the blush the pan could get messy.

The bronzer is such a gorgeous mid-toned warm shade with a subtle golden shimmer, and despite the warmness, this never looks orange on the skin which is a big bonus for little ol' pale me but really helps to warm the complexion. To apply the texture is so buttery and smooth, yet there is still enough transfer and pigmentation to get a bold contour. The bronzer is firmer which means that you won't pick up as much on the brush, but that's good in a way as it means it's harder to go OTT. Because the texture is so buttery this is really easy to blend on the skin, so you don't have to worry about any harsh lines.

The blush is a beautiful light coral with warm undertones, and in comparison to the bronzer this is a little more powdery so you do have to be careful when applying, and a little definitely goes a long way. If you do apply a little heavy handed the formula is so buttery that it will blend easy enough so you aren't looking like a clown. The coral is such a gorgeous everyday shade that gives your cheeks a really healthy flush. One of the good thing about the bronze and blush duo being combined means that this is great for travelling, helping me to save room in my makeup bag.

Packaging wise I love the simplicity and I have to admit this is one of my favourite designs, now I know this may not be everyone's cup of tea but I love the shiny patent black packaging with the rose gold Ellie Goulding logo - not gonna lie this also reminds me of Harry Potter!!

Overall I think that this is a lovely collection, and one that is definitely centred around creating soft and delicate looks. If you missed out on any of the collection, I would definitely say you haven't missed out because as much as I adore this collection this is definitely dupeable.

Did you pick up anything from the Ellie Goulding collection?
