By now you'll know that I love a good makeup release, and this one is no different. Benefit are back with a new member of their Porefessional family, this time with the Porefessional Matte Rescue Invisible Mattifying Gel, naturally I knew I had to give this a shot after already loving their previous Porefessional releases - and spoiler alert I'm loving this already!
Benefit Porefessional Matte Rescue instantly minimises pore appearance, described as a lightweight, water-based gel which overpowers shine and absorbs excess oil, leaving a natural-looking matte finish. Skin feels smooth and refreshed, containing diamond powder known for its soft-focus pore-blurring effect.
The Matte Rescue is a bit of a weird one as it's a gel based primer / moisturiser hybrid as you can use this instead of both moisturiser and primer. To apply you only need a thin layer on top of clean skin before your makeup, and if you're after smooth pore-free skin than you can blot Porefessional on top. Once applied this does help to create a smooth base for foundation, and what I like about this is that it's not silicone based like the original Porefessional formula so you don't have to worry about that weird feeling your skin can sometimes have. As this is a gel formula this feels really lightweight on the skin, and being water based I feel that this works a lot better with my foundations, adding hydration into the skin and combatting oily patches.
I've found that this helps to blur the appearance of pores, meaning that my foundation doesn't cling and instead applies easily over them. This doesn't give the appearance of a completely matte face, and instead it looks more velvety and natural which I do prefer, as sometimes a too matte face can look dull and a little cakey. The Matte Rescue helps keep my foundation in place during a long day at work and helps to keep shine at bay for around eight hours, and even then I only find a little oil peeking through on my nose - nothing a little blot can't fix.
I was a little taken back when I first used this product as the gel itself is blue, which I thought was a little weird but you don't have to worry about this leaving your skin looking blue as it does become clear when blended into the skin - thankfully! I have to add this smells divine also, and for me you can't beat a product that smells good when applying to your face.
Overall I'm loving Benefit's latest addition to the Porefessional range, and am yet to come across a disappointing product. This is the perfect addition to my makeup routine when I'm in need of a bit more staying power for longer days where I know I won't have chance to blot or touch up my face. I like to wear this just on its own as a moisturiser also as this is very lightweight whilst giving my skin the hydration that it needs.
