Brand Focus: My Top NYX Picks

Brand Focus: My Top NYX Picks

NYX is one of those brands that over the past year or so has really crept up in terms of popularity, and to be honest apart from a few bits I purchased years ago I hadn't really given it a proper go - please tell me you remember it being stocked in your local Next or independent makeup store? So now that NYX has become more accessible in the UK, popping up at beauty events such as Clothes Show, and in stocked in stores such as Boots and Selfridges, I couldn't resist stocking up on their products, and I wanted to share with you my top NYX picks!

Starting with the face an unsung favourite has to be the NYX HD Concealer Wand, to be honest I picked this up on a complete whim due to the concealer having HD in the title reminding me of Makeup For Ever. This is such a great concealer, I did actually pick up a shade a little too light for me at Clothes Show but because this is lighter than my skin tone this is perfect for under the eyes. Formula wise this is really creamy and light that can be built up, this really helps to brighten the under eye area with ease and when set with powder will not budge during the day, nor does it settle into any lines. If you're after a cheaper concealer forget Collection, give this a try!

To set your makeup I cannot recommend the NYX Studio Finishing Powder enough, as an avid lover of the Laura Mercier version I was after something on the cheaper side of things as I can't always justify spending nearly £30 on a powder. When swiped against your t-zone this will set your makeup in place and you don't have to worry about any shine coming through, and despite being a white powder this does come across translucent on the skin and so far I've not come across any white flashbacks from photos. On the skin this feels so weightless and helps to disguise enlarged pores whilst adding a hint of luminosity to your face leaving your skin looking radiant.

Finding a great budget contour palette that suits paler skin tones can be hard to come across, as shades can appear too dark or too orange but the NYX Contour Palette ticks all the boxes! I've found the contour shades fall on the ashier side of the scale but this works really great against my skin helping to sculpt out non-existent cheekbones without appearing orange. The highlight shades are also quite light, and I love the choice between pearl and peach tones, so there's definitely shades to suit all.

Let's move onto brows, I'm a big advocate of setting your eyebrows once filled in and to do so I love to use a tinted brow gel. The NYX Tinted Brow Mascara is a great alternative to the Benefit Gimme Brow, the formula itself is a little drier in comparison but I like this as it doesn't clump or the wand nor in the hair. This actually looks really natural on the brow and I find that this helps keep the hairs in the place so I don't have to worry about any brow mishaps during the day.

Next up NYX have a really impressive lip product range and I wanted to start off with the NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Natural, these not only apply really smoothly onto the lips without dragging but the colour payoff is really impressive too! Lip pencils I normally find can feel drying on the skin but surprisingly these are actually quite creamy and could be worn without a lipstick or gloss. The shade Natural is actually my favourite from the range and is a great dupe for MAC's Boldly Bare.

As someone who isn't a big fan of gloss I have quickly been converted to the NYX Butter Glosses, these are some of the most pigmented glosses I have come across and once applied aren't sticky on the lips, so if the wind does come blowing you don't have to worry about a sticky hair situation - which is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to gloss and the reason I don't really wear them. These are so creamy and surprisingly don't bleed or smudge once applied, and these smell amazing - if you're a fan of vanilla then these would definitely be up your street.

Last but not least I couldn't do this post without mentioning the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, and believe me when I say they are a cult product with good reason. Apart from the amazing range of shades, the texture and finish of these are unlike any high street matte lip equivalent. Despite drying to a matte finish, these are just so comfortable to wear and feel so light on the lips that you forget you are wearing a liquid lipstick. Once applied these don't budge either, so you're never left worrying about your lipstick when eating or drinking because rest assured no matter which shade you opt for it's still gonna be there on the lips. If you have yet to try these I'd definitely recommend the shades Cannes, Milan, Monte Carlo and Amsterdam.

So these are my favourite NYX products, I'd love to know what yours are!
