LtoR: Stila Patina, Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Lipstick in Serenity, Sephora Cream Lip Stain Marvellous Mauve, MAC Brave, MAC Mehr, Bourjois Nude-ist, MAC Twig
Over the past year or so it seems that we have all fallen in love with mauve or dusky rose lips or as I like to call it a 90s lip, all thanks to a certain Kylie Jenner. It seems that the mauve storm has really hit us hard, and we are vying over the trend, making it perfectly acceptable to order several shades despite them all being practically the same. As mauves and dusty roses have become my favourite shade as of late to wear I wanted to share with you my favourite mauve lipsticks.
For me mauve lips are such an easy to wear trend, as the shade is not only universally flattering but it's a great way to sport a lip that isn't nude but not too bold either. Starting with one of my faves, the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina, this is such a gorgeous dusty rose shade that I find looks really flattering on the skin. Patina dries down pretty quickly to a matte formula, and this really does live up to its all day name as this can easily last 6-8 hours on the lips and that includes through food and drink. This applies really easily onto the lips feeling creamy and lightweight, the only thing though is that as the day goes on this does have the tendency to feel a little dry - but nothing a little vaseline can't fix.
I have been intrigued by Gerard Cosmetics for the longest time and eventually got round to getting my hands on the Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Serenity. This is such a stunning warm pink that is very opaque and requires little work when applying. Once applied this feels very comfortable on the lips and has a non-drying matte formula, which means you don't have to worry about your lips drying or cracking throughout the day. This has such incredible lasting power, and can easily wear for around 6 hours before it starts to wear in the centre of your lips.
Next up is the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Marvellous Mauve, it's times like these that really make me wish that Sephora would look at opening stores up in the UK again. Marvellous Mauve is such a stunning deep mauve that is a little bolder than your traditional nude lip, the lip stains are some of my favourite liquid lipstick formulas as these apply really creamy yet dry down to a matte formula without feeling too dry on the lips. This stays put all day also and despite being a mauve you don't have to worry about the centres of your lip losing colour leaving a dark stain around your lip line.
I couldn't do this post and not include any of the cult MAC lipsticks, so first up we have MAC Brave, which is a lovely rosy mauve that is perfect for everyday wear. Being a satin lipstick this has a semi-matte finish whilst feeling creamy and moisturising on the lips. If you really want to ramp up the mauve/90s lip then I'd totally recommend teaming this with Soar - as this creates the most gorgeous combination! Next up is MAC Mehr which is the most stunning dusky pink, and I find that this wears with practically any look. Despite being a matte formula this never feels drying on the lips and instead applies easily and smoothly. In terms of lasting power, that is where MAC mattes are fab, as they are incredibly long lasting, and will even survive a round of food and drinks. Another MAC mauve favourite of mine is MAC Twig, this is such a gorgeous deep mauve that is just so flattering on many skin tones. I find that this is a great everyday shade that definitely gives the 'my lips but better' vibe, being a satin finish means that this feels soft on the lips and dries to a semi-matte finish. I always find when sporting this lip that this helps to create the appearance of a fuller lip, I don't know what it is but my lips always really stand thanks to this shade.
A high street favourite of mine has to be the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist, this is such a gorgeous deep dusty rose that is perfect for everyday wear. Formula wise this is quite thin without being too watery and applies really easily onto the lips, and within seconds you are left with a gorgeous matte lip. Once applied this feels really comfortable on the lips yet lasts all day, delivering no smudging, no fading and no transferring so you don't have to worry about touch ups during the day.
I'd love to know what's your favourite mauve lipsticks?
