Top Primers Worth the Extra Step

LtoR: Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Oil Free, Mac Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage, Benefit Porefessional, Too Faced Hangover Primer, Make Up For Ever Step 1 Hydrating Base

Primers are a real marmite product of the beauty world, I find that you either love or hate them. For the longest time I never thought that I needed to introduce primers into my makeup routine as it just seemed an unnecessary extra step which in cost took more time in a morning. However fast forward a couple of years and now I can't go my daily makeup routine without primers, as I not only find that they make my makeup last longer but it makes such a huge difference to pretty much all aspects of my makeup, helping it to just look more put together and with a nicer finish. So I wanted to share with you my top primers that are worth the extra step in your makeup routine.
I had heard such amazing things about the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer range that I knew I needed to get my hands on the Oil Free formula as I was a little hesitant to try the hydrating version. This primer actually reminds me of a moisturiser in terms of its consistency and formula, not only does this feel moisturising on my skin but it feels hydrating at the same time. Saying that it still gives the benefits of a primer, and once applied to the t-zone area this settles into the skin really quickly and helps keep my makeup in place throughout the day whilst never feeling drying and this also helps my foundation stay in place.

Next up is the Mac Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage, which I actually received from MAC after receiving poor customer service - so let's be honest we were always onto a winner. This is such a light weight gel based primer that helps to reduce redness on the face, there's little specks of glitter in this which helps to give the appearance of more radiant skin. Whilst mattifying the skin this also helps to minimise pores and smooth the skin, once on the skin this helps to keep my makeup in place all day and stops oil from seeping through.

My first experiences with primer has to be with the Benefit Porefessional, and I still love it to this day. As someone who suffers with quite large pores this primer is a god send, it really works wonders on my skin helping to conceal and reduce pores making them look a lot less noticeable. I find that this also helps smooth my skin to allow my foundation to apply more seamlessly and helps my makeup last throughout the day. What I like about this is that it can also be applied on top of foundation if you need to blur the appearance of pores, making it a great must-have in my makeup routine.

One of my biggest gripes when it comes to having oily/combination skin is knowing if it's oily or actually dehydrated. That's where the Too Faced Hangover Primer comes in, I find that during a morning when I'm getting ready for work my skin can often look tired and dull so whilst I need to keep my makeup looking fresh for longer I also need something that will perk my face up and leave me looking a little more fresh and awake. I've noticed as well this despite being a hydrating primer this never leaves my skin looking oily, but instead gives my skin a healthy glow and leaves my makeup looking more natural all day long.

Last but not least is the Make Up For Ever Step 1 Hydrating Primer, which I purchased on a whim when I first suspected that my skin may have been dehydrated. Luckily enough for me this worked wonders on the skin, once applied this feels so hydrating on the skin without physically pouring water on your face. This instantly helps perk my complexion up leaving me looking more awake, and this provides a really smooth base for my foundation. I would have to say this is one of the most long lasting primers I have come across and definitely one of my favourites.

I'd love to know what are your favourite makeup primers?
