Now that the temperatures are rising and the sun is beginning to pack some heat once again, it’s actually possible to imagine that summer is right around the corner. Can you believe that in just a matter of weeks, your friends will be begging you to hang out with them on the beach? While a part of you can’t wait to wriggle your toes in the sand and slather on sun screen, you can’t help but remember all of that heavy food you ate over the winter and how many times you decided to forego exercise in favor of snuggling in your cozy bathrobe by the television. With only weeks to go before those lazy, hazy, crazy days go into full swing, you need to take powerfully effective steps to get that beach body back.
DRINK LOTS OF WATER
Your body is made up of 70 percent water, and chances are good that you aren’t giving it nearly enough. When you are fully hydrated, your skin glows and you are able to flush out nasty toxins. In addition, you don’t feel as hungry, making it possible to shed some pounds. When the water you drink is ice-cold, your body also has to do extra work to heat it up, burning even more calories. Best of all, water is available virtually everywhere and doesn’t need to cost you a penny.
WORK ON YOUR POSTURE
Part of obtaining a beach-ready body can involve creating the illusion of thinness. Nothing does that better than a straight posture. When you stand erect and tall as if your head is being pulled up by a string while your shoulders remain relaxed, you look inches taller than you appear when you slouch. An added benefit to a straight yet relaxed stance is the confidence boost it will bring.
TRANSFORM YOUR WORKOUT BY SLOWING IT DOWN
One of the best ways to quickly shed pounds is to start moving more. If exercise isn’t even in your vocabulary at this point, begin slowly yet consistently. Start a daily regimen of brisk walks either outdoors or on a treadmill. Slowly increase the distance and your pace until it becomes a workout.
If you are already doing some sort of physical fitness routine that involves calisthenics or weight lifting, you may be missing out on some of its benefits if you are going through the motions too quickly. Really make your muscles do the work by lifting and putting down your weights slowly. Each repetition should take 20 seconds up and 20 back down. Adopt the same form for push-ups as well. You will soon discover that this type of regimen requires a good deal more work from your muscles than a fast one does.
ADJUST YOUR EATING
Now that you are exercising each day, you may need to give your nutrition a makeover as well. One of the best ways to lose weight in a fast yet healthy way is to cut way back on sugars and starches. A low-carb diet can help you lose weight while also diminishing hunger. When your body no longer has those sugars and starches available to burn, it will start to use its stored fat, the very weight you are trying to lose. Each of your meals should contain a protein (meat, fish or eggs), a healthy fat (olive, coconut or avocado) and a low-carb vegetable (broccoli, kale, tomatoes, spinach, cauliflower, etc.) A high-protein diet will help you stay full for longer and cut down on unhealthy cravings.
WHEN YOU NEED A REAL JUMP-START
For some people, changes in posture, exercise and diet just aren’t enough. They choose to consult aestheticians and plastic surgeons, who have come up with several techniques designed to permanently remove excess body fat. One of these is cool sculpting, a nonsurgical procedure that uses patented equipment to gently freeze fat deposits in target areas, which are eventually flushed away by the body. In addition, many patients elect to have various surgical interventions to reshape their bodies and remove fat. Youtube features any number of liposuction videos that demonstrate the dramatic effects that this particular type of surgery can bring about in a very short time with few side effects and relatively short down time.
Summer may be just over the horizon, but you still have time to reverse the negative physical effects that winter has brought to your body. The key is to make a realistic goal and take steps to begin achieving it today. Before you know it, you will barely recognize yourself.
